In the original Rollplay, Geoff played Vincent Longborn - as infamous as he was ruthless and pragmatic. Kharne the Destroyer in Rollplay Solum: Age of Might.Victarian Black and, later, Voytek Redhorn in Rollplay Solum.Vincent Longborn in the original Rollplay.Geoff had been in control of four characters (the fewest of the cast) throughout the series, including Original Rollplay, Rollplay Solum, and Rollplay Solum: Age of Might. Passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, 20th July, 2019. In early 2018, Geoff created The Pylon Show podcast with co-host Artosis and CobraVe7nom7 who produces the show weekly. He had been approached by both GSL and MLG and has had to turn down offers for that reason. While he had still been a progamer, he had expressed that the reasoning behind him not casting in more events is because of conflicting sponsors for the event. Geoff plainly stated that his passion was to play the game, and that if he was in StarCraft II for monetary reasons he would have switched a long time ago. He had often been asked whether or not he would switch to being a full-time caster because of his lacklustre playing career as of yet. In particular, iNcontroL was a regular caster on North American Star League Season 1, and worked as a caster and host at 2012 DreamHack Open: Stockholm. He was one of the founding players for the professional StarCraft coaching website, Gosu Coaching, with his fellow Evil Geniuses teammates, was one of the regular hosts on State of the Game, and has worked as an occasional caster at various show matches and tournaments. In addition to being a player, iNcontroL was one of the biggest community figures in the North American StarCraft scene. In Brood War he played as Zerg, but during the StarCraft II beta, he changed his race to Protoss. He was a contestant in WCG Ultimate Gamer (Season 1) where he finished in 9th place. iNcontroL attended college and graduated with an English degree. He was educated privately in an all boys high school. He was raised in Seattle, Washington and was the eldest of three siblings. I don't think I ever appreciated his casting or his presence as much as it deserved, to be quite honest, and now he's gone.Įdited to add: remembrances from SC community figures are being compiled at the top of this Reddit thread ( continued here) and this thread on Team Liquid.Geoff "iNcontroL" Robinson was a professional StarCraft II and former Brood War player from the United States. It really wasn't too long ago that Blizzard e-sports started to look like it was crumbling all around us, and Geoff was one of the steadying voices on programmes like the Pylon Show, reminding us all to cherish what we have and to do what is best for the scene. He was a natural comedian and raconteur, sometimes even in excess, and his voice will be dearly missed. But I don't think anybody was quite prepared for him to pass so suddenly, particularly for health reasons-not something one expects for the biggest fitness freak on the scene. Amazing how well he held up, mentally and physically, under intense pressure and scrutiny year to year. Geoff had been having a rough go of it in recent years, between a very public divorce and a few miscreants in the fan base who were really quite vicious to him whenever his casting had an off-day, and he was one of those people that you could always tell was very sensitive to strangers picking fights with him on the Internet. For some reason I'm thinking back to the time he played DDR on some oddball reality show once years before e-sports celebrity was even a thing. Geoff has been one of the faces of American StarCraft for as long as there has been a scene, going back to the fledgling WCG days of Brood War in the mid-2000s when it was a total grassroots effort outside of South Korea. This is a tremendous shock, especially to a community that just lost another one of its most passionate proponents with TotalBiscuit last year.
